The most common Orb Weaving spider of CCNHA old fields is Araneus pratensis. This small spider with maroon stripes on its pale abdomen is abundant in sweeps in June. Common larger Araneids of savanna include a few species of Neoscona and Neosconella. Argiope trifasciata has been taken from sweeps in several fields in late summer (August). Acanthepeira stellata, a gray spider with numerous abdominal tubercles is common in many fields in early fall (September). Less commonly collected Orb Weavers include the large Araneus trifolium, the white Larinia borealis, rear hump, big bumps, and the small orange and black, Singa keysleringi.
