Drosophilids (117 NA spp) are well known because of the genetic work done
on them. Larvae feed on sap, nectar and fungi in decaying fruit and vegetables
and are readily bred in laboratory cultures. Scaptomyza
spp is commonly collected in old field sweeps. A few Drosophila
find the bananas in my house in late fall. Chymomyza
amoena has faintly patterned wings, and Amiota
sp has creamy white patches on face and scutum.
