Heleomyzids (113 NA species) are rather large acalypterates with a spiny
costa. Larvae are reported to feed on fungi or decaying plant and animal
matter. Adults generally occur in shady places. Relatively few specimens
in the genera Eccoptomera, Orbellia,
Pseudoleria,
Suillia,
and
Tephrochlamys have been collected.
