The Aphid Flies (36 NA spp) are quite abundant in CCNHA old fields. The
dominant genus is Chamaemyia
spp (small blue-gray flies with paired black spots on the abdomen).
Less frequently collected are
Plunomia
sp, Pseudodinia sp,
and
Leucopis
spp. As the common name suggests, the larvae of these flies are predaceous
on aphids, scale insects, and mealy bugs.
