The Black Scavenger Flies (34 NA spp) are small, shiny black, with round
heads and the most common genus Sepsis
has a pigment spot on the tip of the wing. Larvae are said to live in excrement
and decaying material. Small numbers of adults (Sepsis
spp) are routinely collected from a variety of CCNHA old fields. Other
species collected about manure piles and other decaying materials include
Saltella
sphondylii,
Themira
sp, and Enicomira mira.
