(Table of Species)

Larvae of most Picture-winged Flies (127 NA spp) feed on decaying vegetation while a few are root feeders. The 10+ species are infrequently collected. Perhaps most common is Chaetopsis spp and Herina sp. Both have metallic green bodies with faint black banding on the wings. Euxesta? sp appears to be associated with Lathyrus venosus. Others collected include Steneretma laticauda, Seiopteravibrans, Pseudotephritis vau, Pterocalla strigula, and Melieria sp. Physiphora demandata has been observed coaxing honeydew from aphids on burdock with its forelegs.
