Specimens of Humpbacked Flies (226 NA spp) are fairly common in old field
sweeps. Perhaps 15 species have been collected. Tentative generic determinations
include: Anevrina, Borophaga,
Diplonevra,
Gymnophora,
Dohrniphora,
Phora,
Triphleba,
and Megaselia spp. Most
species are suspected to be scavengers as larvae, but some of these grotesque
species are parasitic on scale insects.
