Most of the March Flies (78 NA spp) feed on plant roots as larvae. Adults
can be very numerous in late spring (May) and again in the fall (October).
Most of the 5+ spp collected at Cedar Creek are in the genus Bibio.
Penthetria
heteroptera is a black-winged form that is common near Cedar
Bog Lake in September. Also collected a diminutive Bibiodes
sp.
