Seven species of Giant Silkworm Moths (69 NA spp) have been collected at
Cedar Creek. Their large larvae feed on the foliage of various trees and
shrubs (esp. oak and hazel) and overwinter in coccoons. Species collected
include the Polyphemus Moth (Antheraea
polyphemus), the Luna (Actias luna), the Cecropia
(Hyalophora cecropia),
the Io (Automeris io),
the Buck (Hemileuca maia), the Spiny Oakworm (Anisota
stigma) and the Pink-striped Oakworm (Anisota
virginiensis).
