Members of this large family (630 NA spp) have diverse habits. Some are leaf miners, a few form galls, many are leaf rollers/tiers. These small moths have long upcurved labial palps with the terminal segment long and pointed. The Angoumois grain moth, Sitotroga cerealella, is a serious pest of stored grain. Gnorimoschema galaesolidaginis forms an elongate gall on the stem of Solidago gigantea. Another Gnorimoschema? sp forms a circular gall on the stem of Helianthusrigidus. Aroga sp?? feeds on Artemisia ludoviciana, tying the flower heads together. Chrysopora lingulacella is a small red and black moth that forms blotch mines in Chenopodium album. A small brown moth (Phthorimaea sp??) is common on the heads of Rudbeckia serotina in late summer. Species in the genus Coleotechnites are leaf miners in conifers.
