Common Net-spinning Caddisfly larvae (130 NA spp; 42 MN spp) build silk nets between stones in streams, rivers and lakes to ensnare food. Larvae live in a nearby silken retreat. Minnesota genera --Cheumatopsyche(13), Diplectrona(1), Hydropsyche(25), Macronema(1), Potamyia(1); Parapsyche(1).
Species collected at CCNHA include: Cheumatopsyche speciosa, Hydropsyche alternansandPotamyia flava--all collected at light. Macronema zebratum also collected at light, but possibly a vagrant from some larger river.
