Most Bethylids (196 NA spp) are dark-bodied and square-faced and have considerable
wing venation. They are external parasites of concealed Lepidoptera, Diptera,
and Coleoptera larvae. Pristocera
armiferais regularly taken in fair numbers from a variety
of fields in late summer. It is a parasite of soil-inhabiting beetle grubs.
Females of most species are wingless. A few specimens of Parasierola,
Epyris, and
Pseudobrachium have also been collected.
