The Chalcidids (102 NA spp) are larger (5 mm), robust, generally brightly
colored species (yellow and black) with extremely large hind femora and
coxae. The Chalcidids are parasites of various Lepidoptera, Diptera, and
Coleoptera. Some are hyperparasites--attacking tachinids and ichneumonids.
Perhaps ten species in the genera Spilochalcis,
Brachymeria,
Haltichella,
and Chalcis
have been collected.
