Insects of Cedar Creek

Order COLEOPTERA

Family ANTHICIDAE

(Antlike Flower Beetles)

(Table of Species)

Perhaps five species of Anthicids (157 NA spp) have been collected at CCESR. At least two species of Notoxus (with pronotal hood over the head) are fairly common in CCESR old fields. N. anchora has yellow bars on black elytra and N. bifasciata has two transverse yellow bands. I have seen them feeding at the milky lacerations they make in the unopened flower heads of goats-beard (Tragopogon). Malporus formicarius has been taken in small numbers in a variety of fields as has Anthicus (spp incl cervinus?).
