Species of Flat Bark Beetles (85 NA spp) collected at CCNHA include the
large red Cucujus clavipes,
Telephanus
velox,
Ahasverus advena,
Silvanusspp
incl. bidentatus, and Laemophloeus2+
species. Unlike most other families in this set of fungal feeders, species
in this family are considered predaceous on mites and other tiny insects
under bark. Several more species are likely present given that additional
genera of Oryzaephilus, Pediacus, Silvanophloeus, Cryptolestes, Dendrophagus,
Brontes, Catogenus are present in U/MN Collection with Minnesota locality
labels.
