Specimens of Heterocerus spp,
Variegated Mud-loving Beetles, have been collected at light and the mud
of pond/creek edges. A common collecting method is to splash water over
their burrows to flush them out. These fossorial species (30 NA spp) are
scavengers on organic detritus.
