The Stag Beetles is a small family (31 NA spp) whose larvae feed on rotten wood. The Large Stag Beetle Pseudolucanus placidus is fairly common, comes to light, and can sometimes be seen staging male-male fights in the lab lawn. Platycerus virescens is a fairly common woodland species. Ceruchus piceus has also been collected.
