Adults and larvae of this family (89 NA spp) are generally scavengers in
carrion, fungi, and and mammal nests. Specimens of Catops
(3+spp--basillaris,
simplex, terminana)
and Prionochaeta opaca
are common in carrion-baited pitfalls traps set out in woodland at Cedar
Creek.
