Ranatra fusca, the elongate Water Scorpion, with raptorial forelimbs and elongate breathing tube is a common underwater predator in most waters on Cedar Creek. R. nigra? and R. kirkaldyi? may also have been collected. Nepa apiculata, a more robust form, is quite rare.  Only 13 species in this small family occur in North America.
