The Broad Headed Bugs (29 NA spp) are generally elongate slender plant feeders. Two species of Alydus have been collected. A. eurinus, the more abundant of the two, is black and most commonly found on Bush Clover (Lespedeza capitata). A. conspersus is brown with dark blotches on the wing membrane. It too is found on bush clover. Megalotomus quinquespinosus is most common in savanna regions where it is often found on Veiny Pea (Lathyrus venosus). Protenor belfragei is common in wet mesic grassy areas and has been collected in small numbers from denser Poa fields. Stachyocnemus apicalis is a rare ground dwelling species found only in sandy xeric sites.
