Insects of Cedar Creek

Order HEMIPTERA

Family THYREOCORIDAE

(Negro Bugs)

(Table of Species)

The Negro Bugs (30 NA spp) are small, oval, and black with an enlarged scutellum covering the entire abdomen and are easily mistaken for beetles. Corimelaena pulicaria is sometimes abundant on Solidago missouriensis. Other species of Corimelaena are likely present.  At least three species of Galgupha, G. atra--shiny black, G. nitiduloides, and G. aterrima--dull black, occur on the area. They have been taken in small numbers from a variety of fields, but the species were not routinely differentiated.
