Lactuca canadensis

Asteraceae. Forb. Leaves alternate. Usually found in rosette form. Leaves are long with very deep teeth, after the plant has gotten large. Leaves are flimsy. When rosettes are small the teeth are generally smaller and not so deeply lobed but generally not possible to distinguish the Lactuca sp. when they are small. Flowering stalk branches many times and there is one flower per a stalk. Flowers are small and yellow, and look like dandelions. Has a tan sap when a leaf vein is broken. Name is from Latin "lac" for milk, due to the milky sap. Similar species: Other Lactuca species- Lactuca biennis. Found in fields B and C.
